I really like our boys music checked ou his vid in August and bought his CD soon as it came out.
I was really looking forward to seeing him live.

Saw our boy in Charleston, opened for Matt Costa, he was solo. He also seemed to be pissed both in the english sense, (drunk)and in the american sense (angry). Called some dude out whose back was turned to him while he was singing. Only played 5 songs. I asked where his guitar player was he said he was in an accident. Wasn't sure if he was being a smart ass or what?

On another note did speak to him for about 5 mins after the show. He was cordial and said he'd be back this summer with his band and told me he'd be better.

Any one know what's up? Was he mad because Costa wasn't treating him right or just decided to get loaded.

I'm not sure, but I got the impression he was drunkenly pissed and pulling a Townshend -- digging into audience for a reaction.

I'm very new to Rice's music, so I'm not at all sure if this attitude is out of character, but I'm sure seeing a group of giggling teenieboppers paying more attention to flirting with their friends than listening to the music would piss you off. (Granted, I'm part of the same demographic, but I thought it was great he called the guy out.)

As for the show itself, it seemed like a planned solo acoustic, but I'm not sure. I just wish I had studied his music more before the gig! I've had JR and MC's songs stuck in my head for weeks now!

charleston was in terms of crowd noise and general disinterest one of the roughest jr shows i've seen. philly was super quiet and brooklyn too. better atmosphere for acoustic jr. i think we've all seen him trying to get a reaction out of the audience, but in this case it seemed more like being bummed playin for a room of people who could give a shit. i would point out that the crowd was pretty much the same for costa. in philly, he played nine songs, probably cause he was enjoyin himself. i bet being up there alone he's even more aware of that without havin a band to drown out the drunks.
as for bein a little loaded....maybe just blowin off steam....or maybe just that weird life on the road.
good news about the summer dates that he mentioned to you ruester. good to see him with the band, particularly if mr. jonathan wilson is playin the guitar. maybe i'll see ya......
